First set: Ben Allen
Ben Allen first began learning the Irish uilleann pipes in 2010. In 2023, he brought local players together to establish the Front Range Piping Club. Residing in Nederland, CO, he continues to explore the rich possibilities of the instrument through making reeds, archival recordings, and studying technique.
Second Set: Nicolette Andres
Nicolette Andres plays violin and Hardanger fiddle, a 9-stringed folk instrument from Norway. She has performed across the world and has composed original music for film scoring. She released her debut album, Hands, in April 2025, which features cittern player Graeme Danforth - her husband. The cittern is a lute-like instrument dating back to the Renaissance. Between these two instruments there are 19 strings, creating a mesmerizing and transcendent wave of sound and resonance. Nicolette plays many tunes from the tradition of Hardanger fiddle music, and upon this foundation she has also composed her own music. She draws upon her love of melody, rhythm, jazz, and folk music as she adds her own creations to this living tradition.
Third Set: Khan Kurra
Khan Kurra is a musician, producer and DJ whose musical journey has taken him along an uncharted path from the pubs of Ireland to the airwaves of New Zealand, with many a nightclub along the way. His debut EP was featured in a year-end retrospective in The Wire magazine. Since then, he has released music on a range of domestic and international labels, also contributing to several short films and documentaries. His sound draws inspiration from music and instrumentation from around the world, blended into bass-driven, atmospheric productions. It is music that seeks to bridge the past to the present and (perhaps) future. In recent years, he has explored his Scandinavian heritage more deeply, developing DJ sets that honor these musical traditions while imbuing them with an electronic flair.
