The Darjeeling Ruby is a high elevation second flush black-tea Darjeeling made from AV2 clonal bushes. This year’s harvest was simply outstanding, the Ruby positively bursts with sweet maltiness, ripe red fruits, and floral aromas. This is a very refined example of what Indian black teas can be, fans of the genre won’t want to sleep on this one.

The term “second-flush” refers to teas harvested in the summer months, after the Spring rains but before the monsoon season. The hotter weather causes the tea to wither more than in the Spring, producing a true black tea as opposed to a lightly oxidized first-flush Darjeeling. As such the flavor is richer and maltier, and the brewed tea has a bright red to maroon color.
